“I have been container gardening for a few years now and it is truly my favorite way to garden. I have had great luck with tomatoes (I have a lovely batch of sun golds on the vine now). However, I could use some advice on my Clematis. It just did not seem to be take off the way my other container flowers did this season. Any ideas”.

Dear Karrin,

Good to hear that you are a fan of container gardening. We all can imagine that not all the plant species react the same way upon growing in containers.  One the important factors is the volume of the root system.  Dimensions of the containers should be adapted to the “expected needs” of root volume.  One could easily suppose that a Clematis plant needs a larger container than a tomato plant.  Could this be the origin of your “trouble” ?  Any reader with other suggestions ?

Willem
