Bales and Bits: Try container gardening

In a world of limited time and money, container gardening seems to be more and more appropriate – especially for folks like me who tend to write more about gardening than actually garden. The popularity of container gardening has taken on a life of its own and has almost become an art form. Successful and unsuccessful gardeners alike know that good looking containers just don’t happen. When a few basic principles are applied, even the novice gardener can create and maintain attention-grabbing containers.

The only “rules” that apply to selecting a container is that it needs to be able to hold soil and allow drainage. A few comments on the basic choices:
